Activities

Activities

Florø extends from the coastline and all the way in towards the glacier. This creates rich opportunities for activities suitable for everyone.

The nature

The nature offers everything from thundering rivers running through the landscape, sky-high mountain peaks and calm lakes and waters for fishing.
Whithin comfortable distance (20-30 km.), most of this is reachable. Keywords such as quiet, undisturbed and yet central, describe Florø Rorbu and defines it as a destination ideal for relaxation, fishing, shopping, boating and a wide variety of other activities and attractions.

The nearby port of Furuholmen is a public recreational area. At the camping site, also nearby, you can enjoy sunbathing and swimming, and it also has a beach area well suited for small children. Spend the evenings relaxing and barbecueing with us.

Sørstrand Folkepark is a combined swimming spot and barbeque area only 2 km away.

What to do

On your way to the town centre, a short 500 metres from Florø Rorbu, you will find the first attraction on your route. The waterpark Havhesten (“the sea horse”) is a great place to visit for guests of all ages.
From there on, you continue to the center of Florø. See aerial photo for details.

For those who want to see more than just the town itself, we recommend a trip at sea to the isles west of Florø. The boat connections operate on a daily basis, and a number of the charming isles has its own webiste where you can find more information on each and every one. Visit www.svanoy.com for an example. Svanøy holds both a deer farm and an authentic mansion, and among many famous historical visitors are both the legendary Olav den Hellige and the viking warrior king Eirik Blodøks.
Likewise we recommend idyllic Fanøy in the Batalden area, a pearl on this chain of coastal isles. Visit Batalden.gs.sf.no for further information.

Boating

Keep in mind that you can reach the isles by your self if you want to rent your own boat! For further information on boating, visit atloy.no.

Florø – a community of culture

Is culture your cup of tea? If yes, we warmly recommend visiting Florø on the 3rd weekend of July. Let yourself be spellbound by the famous and magical Kinnaspelet (“the Kinna traditional play”) on the beautiful saga isle of Kinn, not far from Florø. Kinnaspelet is an historical outdoor play reenacting the legend of St. Sunniva and the country’s transition into reformation.

If you are interested in music, you can on the very same weekend partake in the yearly rock festival arranged by rockeklubben.no. We guarantee festivities and fun from early evening and into the late night!

Before getting ready for party, indulge in and enjoy the delicious Sildabordet (herring feast), free of charge!

Immediately after, normally on the following weekend, an arrangement unique to Florø is taking place; Veikingkonvoien. We will surely come short trying to give a fair explanation of this event, and instead we encourage a visit at veikingkonvoien.com, where you will get an idea of what the event is about. Keep in mind: no need to compete in who has the biggest boat, instead just enjoy!

If you wish to spend a slow day at a museum, we recommend the coastal museum of Florø. Here you will find interesting exhibits showing the old maritime and coastal culture, and among other things you can see one of Norway’s oldest wooden boats.

Maybe you want to step into the time machine and travel even further back in time, all the way to the stone age? Visit Ausevikfeltet, one of the largest petroglyph / rune carving sites in Norway.
